In the Cicada Pi studio space, classes will be taught by Veronica and community guest artists. Veronica’s classes focus on metal work — such as jewelry making, sculpture and other three-dimensional crafts. Veronica draws on decades of teaching experience in art jewelry fabrication and sculpture. The studio will include day and evening classes for adults, and after-school and Saturday classes and workshops for high school students.
You can register for classes below. We accept Paypal or send in/drop off a check before the first session. We can also take credit cards by phone. If you would like to teach a new class, or just buy a gift certificate for a good friend, please contact us.
Adult Intro to Jewelry
Total beginners can learn the essential skills of shaping, soldering, stone setting & polishing to make a silver and gem stone ring to be proud of. Once you learn these skills you can make bracelets, pendants, boxes and more in continuing classes. Tools, stones and silver are included in the materials fee
Build on basic skills and choose more advanced projects using rolling mill textures, hydraulic press, chip inlay, sand casting, tube setting, fold forming, reticulation and more. Let us teach you a new skill or guide you through your independent projects.
Two rings, actually! We’ll texture and solder (torches! yay!) a wide silver band. Then, just for fun, we’ll make another one to fit over the first one. Flare the ends and you’ve entrapped the slim band (really you have to see the picture). Better than a worry stone or biting your fingernails, you can spin it all day long. Looks pretty cool AND you’ve created it. A good way to explore metalworking and go home with a finished ring.
Boys and girls! Grab your favorite mom or dad, grandma or grandpa, aunt or uncle (you get the idea), and join us for two Saturday afternoons to build a Frankenstein creation of your own design. Bring your favorite junk and found objects like pieces of machinery, old clock arms, sticks(get creative), or select bits from our collection. Using the drill press, wire, hot glue, pegs and other joining techniques we will assemble all these parts into a monster – just in time for Halloween!
Students graduating from intro class, or with permission from instructor, can join us for a variety of workshops: die forming, fold forming, texturing, riveting and finishing. Make jewelry, decorative objects, or independent projects. No tools necessary.
Fittings, Findings and Fasteners
1 Three Hour Session
Beaders! Assemblage artists! Summer is coming! Don’t hold up your projects to hunt for just the right findings. Using a few hand tools and wire, you will create your own jump rings, head pins, clasps, pressure fittings and ear wires. Learn tips and tricks of making beautiful fasteners to grace your original work.
Reason to Resin
Super simple way to make a super cool chip inlay ring with no prior experience! We will make a band ring, cut a silver disc, dome it into a little cup, rivet the cup to the ring and add ground up gem stones and resin. Then we let it cure for a week, come back, grind, polish and admire! I love this project!
In this one day workshop, participants will make a leather bound book from start to finish. Using the traditional bookbinding technique of long stitch, we will design, assemble, and bind beautiful blank books to be used as journals or sketchbooks. Materials, tools and a variety of found papers are provided but students are encouraged to bring in decorative papers they may want to include within their book. No experience required!
Custom Belt Buckles
It’s taken a while to get this class on the schedule. The time is right to shed your coat and show off a new belt buckle hand crafted by you! We will teach you how to design, cut, texture and solder copper to create a one-of-a-kind original belt buckle that will make you look and feel stylin’!

Or even better, fire, copper and books. Bring in your books or boxes (hand crafted or purchased). We will soften the copper with torches. Yup, fire! Then, using the rolling mill (It’s like a big metal pasta maker), we will emboss feathers, leaves or paper stencils into copper to make beautiful one-of-a-kind plates. Then after coloring and waxing (no, not your hair!) we will mount them with your hand made rivets. A truly unique gift and experience!
